It's All About Capturing the Smiles
DIGIC III Image Processor ensures sharp images and improved functionality.
With DIGIC III, your images boast superior quality, the camera operates at top efficiency and battery life is enhanced. What's more, DIGIC III enables Canon's Face Detection, Motion Detection Technologies and Red-eye Correction to give you better, more true-to-life people shots. Simply press the shutter button halfway down, and the camera automatically pinpoints the faces in the scene and chooses the ideal focus point. The camera controls exposure settings and flash to keep every face looking bright and natural. The camera also selects and sets the optimal exposure and ISO settings automatically to keep everything looking sharp and clear. Red-eye Correction can be handled in-camera. The Red-eye Correction during shooting uses the Face Detection Technology to recognize and remove red-eye from images as they're taken, before the file is written to the memory card. It's also possible to correct red-eye during image playback, using simple settings in the PowerShot A480's menu. | | | |

Big disappointment Aug 10, 2010 Bought this after my Kodak EasyShare bit the dust. Everyone raved about Canons, so I thought I'd give it a try. Now, I'm dying to go back to Kodak! This camera takes waaaaay too long to charge the flash between each shot, then waaaaay too long to focus on the subject, and then there's another second delay after you hit the button. Trying to capture "the moment" with my kids is impossible! Or even with group shots I find myself apologizing, "Hold on...it's still charging...hold that smile...trying to focus...not ready yet..." It takes about 5-10 seconds to charge the flash between each shot. Which, when people are waiting, or when your kids are running around, is an eternity. Action shots are impossible -- always blurred. And I haven't been too impressed with the color quality either.
And NOW I'm having trouble with it saying I need new batteries every time I turn it on. Even after I put brand-new batteries in it. I've only had this camera 7 months, and I'm ready to throw it at the wall.
Bottom line: This camera is way too slow, and the quality of the pictures is only so-so. It's more trouble than it's worth.

DONT buy this camera Aug 06, 2010 this camera has very poor durability, the shooting modes are all the same. This camera has broken on me twice, do not buy this camera! This is a waste of money, and it is way overpriced! Canon should be ashamed of this camera!! I'm sick of it saying "Lens error, restart camera"
Canon PowerShot A480 Aug 06, 2010 I purchased camera before vacation. It was easy to use, my family really liked the camera. The price paid was reasonable.
Batteries dont' last Aug 04, 2010 Camera is good for picture quality and ease of use - this is my 3rd canon powershot - battery life is awful. I take several pictures - upload them - then shut the camera off - in 1 and half weeks of not using it- batteries are dead - I can't keep batteries in camera or they drain quickly.....I would not recommend this camera and now I have to purchase another camera, and I won't be purchasing powershots anymore.
WARNING - CAMERA SWITCHES ON EASILY AND WILL RUIN LENS! Aug 01, 2010 This camera would be great, except for a fatal flaw! It commonly switches on inside the users' purse, pocket ect, this causes the lens to jam and then the camera does not work properly and makes a horrible grinding noise while turning on. After this event there are spots in the picture, you cannot use the zoom feature properly, and the camera continuously errors out reporting the lens cannot be closed. This has happened to my husband twice! The first time Amazon kindly replaced the camera, but he has yet to decide what to do about the second time. This has also happened to me, although my lens was not damaged, thankfully. This really would be a great camera if not for this problem. The on switch should be a dial you have to turn, not a pressure sensitive button.
The camera otherwise takes good photos, pretty easy to use, decent battery life ect. But sorry, can't recommend something that self destructs within minutes of purchase.
